Treatment of Children

The osteopathic treatment of children provides a very special opportunity to change the trajectory of a child’s life, all the way into adulthood.

Skilled osteopathic treatment at an early age (even right at birth) allows the infant/child to reach its full potential for health by normalizing dysfunctional structural patterns (patterns in the muscles, bones, fluids, membranes, ligaments) due to the birth process, early attempts at walking, or accidents or injuries in childhood. Once the dysfunctional structural patterns are treated, children can thrive. Many parents have reported how quickly their child responds to even just one or two osteopathic treatments.

Dr. Lytle-Vieira receives referrals on a regular basis from pediatricians, lactation consultants, speech/language therapists, and myofunctional therapists.

Below are some of the issues we treat in infants and children in our South Austin office:

  • colic

  • feeding problems in a baby (latch/sucking problems, acid reflux)

  • chronic ear infections

  • abnormal shaped head/flat head (plagiocephaly)

  • scoliosis

  • gait problems (walking with feet turned in or out)

  • clogged tear duct in a baby (dacryostenosis)

  • sports injuries

  • concussions

  • torticollis (“wry neck”)- head turned in one direction

  • constipation

"Dr. Saskia was able to help my baby at only a few weeks old. He was crying often throughout the day and seemed inconsolable. A friend mentioned that OMT might help. After the very first visit with Dr. Saskia, he immediately stopped crying incessantly and was back to being happy most of the time. I couldn't believe the change I saw and how quickly it happened."
